The colour that lifts your day
Open most wardrobes and you will find the same story. A lot of black, a lot of navy, a good amount of grey, and then somewhere near the end, three or four things in colours that actually get worn on the good days.
That last group is worth paying attention to.
Safe is not the same as favourite
We buy neutrals because they are easy. They go with everything, they hide everything, and nobody ever regretted a black dress. That is all true. It is also why the neutrals pile up while the colour you love stays a single item.
Ask yourself which piece you put on when you want the day to go well. It is almost never the safest thing you own.
How to find yours
You do not need a colour analysis appointment. You need a mirror and about ten minutes.
Hold things up near your face in daylight, not under a bathroom light. Watch your face rather than the fabric. Some colours make your eyes look brighter and your skin look rested. Others make you look like you need a coffee. The difference is obvious once you are looking for it.
Then check your own history. Which colour do people compliment you in? Which one do you get photographed in and actually like the photo? That is data, and it is better data than any theory.
Where to put it
A colour you love does more work in a dress than anywhere else, because it sits near your face and it is the whole outfit at once. You are not matching it to anything. You put it on and you are done.
Start with one. Not a whole new wardrobe, just one dress in the colour that makes you look like you slept well. Wear it on an ordinary day and see what happens.
And if your colour is black
Then it is black, and that is a real answer. Some people genuinely look and feel best in it. The point was never to talk you out of it. The point was to make it a choice rather than a default.
